![]() ![]() In July, Citymapper was granted permission to run its first commercial bus route, operating a night service between Aldgate East and Highbury & Islington. As well as showing millions of Londoners the best route to take on public transport, the startup has also launched its own small-scale bus service. It’s not Citymapper’s first foray into public transport infrastructure. And he hopes that with the success of this one, Gett and Citymapper can start to identify other gaps in London's network. "The use of this solution is very scaleable, so we can scale up the number of drivers based on the take up but we do expect again to be in the range of a few thousand every single day," he says. ![]() De Renzi expects the new route will be much more successful because of the partnership. There are already other routes available around London, which are used by thousands of people a day, but this is the first time Gett Together is partnering with Citymapper to choose the routes that are needed most. "The idea is to encourage people to share the same vehicle and reducing congestion, traffic, and of course pollution on our roads." "London has an amazing transportation network but, there is no public network in the world that can address the single need of all the users in that daily commute," he says. So who do they expect to use the network? De Renzi says he doesn't actually expect people to stop using buses and jump ship to Gett Together, rather its more about encouraging the people who drive to stop using their own cars. The company claims there will be an average wait time of under five minutes. Passengers can hop on or off anywhere along the line, which has no fixed stops, by requesting through the app at the nearest point to them. Operating at peak times on weekdays only, the fare for travelling the route will be £3, regardless of how far a passenger travels along the line. The service advertises itself as a crowd-free alternative to public transport at a price comparable to it. ![]()
